Allied Pilots Association on Trumka: “Champion of Labor”
FORT WORTH, Texas (Aug. 5, 2021) – The Allied Pilots Association (APA), representing the 14,000 pilots of American Airlines, offers condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Richard Trumka, the longtime president of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).
“Richard Trumka was a champion of labor’s right to demand safe conditions and appropriate compensation,” APA President Capt. Eric Ferguson said. “He started out representing his fellow miners, but he has improved employees’ lives in a number of industries, including aviation. We join working people nationwide in mourning his loss.”
Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 14,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union’s website is AlliedPilots.org.
