Allied Pilots Association: By Aiding Airlines, “Policymakers are Investing in Our Nation’s Future”

FORT WORTH, Texas (March 18, 2020) — Citing “the vital role” that airlines perform, the Allied Pilots Association (APA) lauded  President Trump and Congress for working toward an aid package for U.S. carriers to help offset the impact of COVID-19.

APA represents the 15,000 pilots who fly for American Airlines.

“Our nation’s airlines are part of the very fabric of our lives,” said Capt. Eric Ferguson, APA President. “Airlines perform a vital role by facilitating commercial activity and by connecting us to one another. By investing in our company and our industry, policymakers are investing in our nation’s future.

“When the COVID-19 crisis subsides — and it will — airlines must be able to answer the call to resume business as usual,” he said. “Thanks to the foresight that President Trump and Congress are demonstrating, the hundreds of thousands of hard-working men and women who keep our nation's airlines flying will be ready.

"APA wholeheartedly supports efforts to ensure that our nation’s airline industry remains vibrant, and we urge policymakers to make workers' needs the top priority," Ferguson said. "We must do all we can to preserve jobs."

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union's website is AlliedPilots.org.
