Carey received 3,577 votes, or 40.57 percent of the votes cast. Capt. Ferguson is a Dallas/Fort Worth-based pilot who was previously a member of the APA Board of Directors and chaired the union’s Negotiating Committee. He also served as a union official while flying for America West and US Airways before the latter carrier merged with American Airlines. He resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Capt. Patrick O’Rourke was elected to serve as APA Vice President. He received 4,413 votes, or 50.47 percent of the total votes cast, while incumbent APA Vice President First Officer Timothy Hamel received 4,330 votes, or 49.53 percent of the votes cast. Capt. More than 66 percent of eligible pilots cast ballots in the runoff round.

APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union's website is AlliedPilots.org.
