Allied Pilots Association Voices Support for Striking SAS Pilots

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 29, 2019) — The Allied Pilots Association (APA), representing the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, expressed its strong support for the striking pilots of Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). The pilots of SAS have been on strike since last Friday.

“We salute our brother and sister pilots at SAS for their efforts to improve their conditions of employment,” said APA President Capt. Daniel F. Carey. “For far too long, the pilot profession has been under pressure worldwide. With favorable economic conditions and global demand for qualified professional pilots now on the rise, pilots have an opportunity to regain lost ground, and we salute the SAS pilots for taking bold action.

“My APA colleagues and I stand ready to assist the SAS pilots, and we call on SAS management to return to the bargaining table and engage in good-faith negotiations so that the airline can promptly restore passenger service.”

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union's website is AlliedPilots.org. American Airlines is the world's largest passenger airline.
