This is APA Communications Director Gregg Overman with the APA Information Hotline for Tuesday, Oct. 30.
APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS FALL MEETING: The APA Board of Directors reconvened at 9 a.m. Central at union headquarters for its regularly scheduled fall meeting.
The national officers and board spent part of today’s session undergoing anti-discrimination and anti-harassment training. The training curriculum was created by the APA Legal Resource Team, Professional Standards Committee, and Aeromedical Committee at the board’s direction via R2018-60, “APA Board of Directors Statement on Harassment and Unlawful Discrimination,” which the board approved during the August 2018 special meeting. The APA staff received the same training earlier this month.
Also today, the board employed a new procedure for processing resolutions as directed by R2018-47 Rev 1, “CABAC Drafting Committees.” With this new procedure, two subsets of the board review proposed resolutions simultaneously, consider them from legal, financial, and technical perspectives, and receive and evaluate testimony from subject-matter experts. The intent is to save time by having resolutions thoroughly reviewed in committee before consideration by the full board.
Also, the resolution form itself has changed. The “Source” field may include a domicile, committee, staff department, or other source. The “Proposer” is the individual who would have been called the “Maker” on older versions of the form. A new section documents the drafting committee’s consideration and the actions they may want to recommend to the full board.
Despite having reduced time for consideration of resolutions on Monday and having to consider both Monday’s and Tuesday’s scheduled resolutions in the time allotted for only Tuesday’s resolutions, the consideration of resolutions is on schedule. For the next six months, the board will review the process at the end of each meeting and make changes and improvements as needed.
While in open session, the board approved the following:
The board recessed at 5:15 and will reconvene at 9 a.m. tomorrow. This week’s meeting is scheduled to continue through Friday. You will find the meeting agenda here.
In accordance with R2016-11, this hotline message includes a synopsis of today’s session reflecting all main motions and resolutions that the board addressed. In accordance with R2017-37 Rev 1, videos of the open portions of today’s session will soon be posted to AlliedPilots.org/BODMeetingRecordings.
