Allied Pilots Association “Enthusiastically Supports” Securing and Revitalizing Aviation (SARA) Act of 2018

FORT WORTH, Texas (July 25, 2018) – The Allied Pilots Association (APA) voiced its support for S. 3270, the Securing and Revitalizing Aviation (SARA) Act of 2018, which is intended to ensure the viability of general aviation for future generations. The bipartisan bill is sponsored by U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.).

“The Allied Pilots Association enthusiastically supports this beneficial, pro-pilot legislation,” said Capt. Dan Carey, president of the Allied Pilots Association. “SARA would help make a flying career more accessible for young Americans by enabling high school students to take ground school classes, and it would benefit pilots in a variety of other ways. For example, it would help address the current shortage of Designated Pilot Examiners for pilots and pilot training schools, and the legislation would also serve as a Good Samaritan Law for volunteer pilots, protecting them from liability as long as they are following appropriate procedures.

“We applaud Senator Inhofe and Senator Duckworth for taking the lead in sponsoring this important bill, and we urge lawmakers to adopt it promptly.”

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union’s website is AlliedPilots.org. American Airlines is the world’s largest passenger airline.
