Allied Pilots Association’s Statement on Southwest Airlines Flight 1380

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 18, 2018) – Captain Dan Carey, president of the Allied Pilots Association (APA), issued the following statement regarding Southwest Airlines Flight 1380:

“We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the friends and family of Ms. Jennifer Riordan for their loss. When a tragedy like this occurs, the entire airline community mourns.

“APA would like to commend the highly experienced pilots who safely landed the damaged airplane while acknowledging the flight attendants’ steadfast professionalism during extremely challenging circumstances. We would also like to recognize the passengers who selflessly did all they could to assist one another.

“Their combined heroic efforts prevented any further loss of life and showed how, in the air, we’re all in this together.”

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union’s website is AlliedPilots.org. American Airlines is the world’s largest passenger airline.
