Allied Pilots Association on Ryanair Pilots: “We Are Proud to Support Their Efforts and Salute Their Outstanding Achievement”
FORT WORTH, Texas (Dec. 15, 2017) – Following the news that Ryanair will recognize pilot unions at the national level, Allied Pilots Association President Capt. Daniel F. Carey issued the following statement:
“By securing the right to collectively bargain their terms of employment, the pilots of Ryanair have struck a decisive blow against the indirect employment scheme, which poses a threat to professional pilots worldwide. By coming together throughout Europe to pursue a common goal, Ryanair’s pilots have proven the power of unity.
“On behalf of the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines represented by the Allied Pilots Association, I want to express my gratitude to our Ryanair brothers and sisters for advancing the interests of all professional pilots. We are proud to support their efforts and salute their outstanding achievement. Just as we have learned in the United States, a unionized pilot corps and management team working together will lead to increased value for all stakeholders and bolster passenger confidence.”
Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union’s website is AlliedPilots.org. American Airlines is the world’s largest passenger airline.
