Allied Pilots Association Head Congratulates Newly Confirmed NTSB Chair Captain Robert L. Sumwalt
FORT WORTH, Texas (Aug. 8, 2017) — Captain Dan Carey, president of the Allied Pilots Association, issued the following statement regarding the United States Senate’s confirmation of Captain Robert L. Sumwalt to serve as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board:
“On behalf of the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines represented by the Allied Pilots Association, I congratulate Captain Sumwalt on his confirmation as the 14th chair of the NTSB. Captain Sumwalt spent 32 years as a pilot, chaired the Air Line Pilots Association’s Human Factors and Training Group, and co-founded ALPA’s critical incident response program, so he brings a tremendous amount of relevant expertise to his new position. We look forward to working closely with him and his NTSB colleagues to further aviation safety.”
Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas.
