ALLIED PILOTS ASSOCIATION BOARD ELECTS FIRST OFFICER TIMOTHY HAMEL AS INTERIM VICE PRESIDENT
DALLAS/FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 5, 2015) — The APA board of directors elected an interim vice president this afternoon to succeed outgoing APA Vice President First Officer Neil Roghair, who resigned effective Dec. 1, 2015.
First Officer Timothy Hamel, a DFW-based First Officer who flies the Boeing 787 internationally, is 53 years old and has flown for American Airlines for the past 24 years. A resident of Phoenix, Arizona, he served in the United States Air Force and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from California State University-Chico. He has served as chairman of the APA Scope Committee since 2009 and has held a variety of other positions in the union. He and his wife Christine have two adult children.
"My longstanding goal as a union volunteer has been to protect and strengthen the airline pilot profession," First Officer Hamel said. "I am honored to have the opportunity to serve our members as a national officer."
The interim term of office runs through June 30, 2016.
"On behalf of the APA leadership, I would like to congratulate First Officer Hamel and thank the other candidates who also expressed a willingness to serve," said APA President Capt. Keith Wilson. "I look forward to working with him to meet the individual and collective representation needs of the 15,000 pilots who fly for American Airlines."
Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association (APA) — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 15,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union's website is www.alliedpilots.org. American Airlines is the world's largest passenger airline.
