Allied Pilots Association Lauds Progress of H.R. 7321, “Global Aircraft Maintenance Safety Improvement Act”

FORT WORTH, Texas (June 17, 2022) – The Allied Pilots Association (APA) reiterated its support for H.R. 7321, the “Global Aircraft Maintenance Safety Improvement Act,” which will be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives following the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s decision this week to advance it to the full chamber.

“This legislation has strong, bipartisan support, and we applaud the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for taking this important step,” said APA President Capt. Eric Ferguson. “In particular, we want to express our gratitude to Committee Chair Peter DeFazio for his outstanding leadership.

“Safety must always be at the forefront of every decision we make in our industry, and the Global Aircraft Maintenance Safety Improvement Act features several important provisions to enhance the margin of safety for our passengers and crews,” he said. “U.S. commercial aviation has an enviable safety record, and we must do all we can to preserve and build on it.”

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association — the largest independent pilots union in the United States — is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 14,000 pilots of American Airlines, including several hundred pilots on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union’s website is AlliedPilots.org.
