Joint Holiday Flying Update

Fellow Pilots,

As you’re all aware, over the last several days APA and AA management have been working to find a solution to cover the greater than normal level of open time made available due to the TTOT processing error. We’ve reached an agreement that we believe will ensure that our customers’ holiday travel plans are not disrupted while also recognizing our pilots’ extra efforts to help resolve this challenge. The highlights of the agreement are as follows:

  • Effective immediately, and retroactive to the 2000 HBT TTS run on November 28, 2017, all sequences that fall within the date ranges and bid statuses identified by the Company in its November 28, 2017, message to be paid at a premium of 150% will now be paid at a settlement rate of 200%. Remaining open sequences to be paid at the settlement rate of 200% and will be made available on AAPilots or by clicking here. There may be a need to identify additional sequences in December 2017 to be paid at the settlement rate of 200%. The list of sequences will be updated daily at 1700 CST.
  •

  • Sequences identified to be paid at the settlement rate of 200% may be picked up or traded in either TTS, TTOT or awarded/assigned to a reserve pilot/line holder inside or outside of the DOTC process.
  •

  • Once a sequence is identified to be paid at the settlement rate of 200%, it will remain as an identified sequence to be paid at that rate by any pilot who flies that sequence, even if the trip was traded or previously dropped by another pilot.
  • Exception: The settlement rate of 200% will not be paid to a pilot who trades onto an “identified” sequence from a “non-identified” sequence in a like-for-like trade (in such case the 200% settlement rate will be applied to the sequence which was dropped).
  • Like-for-like is defined as a trade in which the trip being picked up originates on the same date as the trip being dropped and has the same number or fewer days.
  • In a like-for-like trade between two identified sequences, both pilots will be paid at the settlement rate of 200%.
  • “Identified” sequences covered by reserve pilots will be paid at the settlement rate of 200% above guarantee, whether flown on reserve availability days or DFPs.
  •

  • For the month of December 2017 only, regular pilots that were below an IMAX of 125 hours will be increased to 125 hours to allow those pilots to pick up sequences. “Identified” sequences will be paid at the settlement rate of 200% above the lower end of the LCW (line construction window). Non-identified sequences will be paid at a rate per the JCBA above the lower end of the LCW (line construction window). The Company will maintain a list of IMAX-constrained reserve pilots to award flying on their reserve available days after assigning reserves. They too will be paid at the settlement rate of 200% above guarantee.
  •

  • Hours flown at the settlement rate of 200% will be paid and uncredited toward a pilot’s IMAX but will be applied to FAR limitations.
  •

  • If an identified sequence is split, the resulting sequences will be paid at the settlement rate of 200%.
  •

  • In the event a pilot is reassigned, the reassignment will be paid at the settlement rate of 200% for the greater of the original sequence or the reassignment sequence.
  •

  • In the event an “identified” sequence is flown as the result of a replacement flying, transitional reserve or hybrid assignment, it will be paid at the settlement rate of 200%.
  •

  • Hours flown at the settlement rate of 200% will be offset by the number of sick hours a pilot uses in December 2017. The value of hours offset under this paragraph will be apportioned as directed by APA.
  •

  • Beginning December 11, 2017, through December 22, 2017, pilots may manually participate in out-of-base pickup by calling a designated crew schedule desk which the Company will operate from 0600-2200 daily.
  •

  • Beginning December 16, 2017, through December 18, 2017, check airmen may be awarded December 2017 “identified” sequences. The straight value of hours awarded under this paragraph will be apportioned at 150% as directed by APA.
